A Day at the Park

The 39th annual Laurel Day in the Park 5K was held on May 7 with about 200 runners in the 5K and a good number of one-milers. After a few instructions from race director Bill McMullan and a prayer by Randy Turner, everyone was off and running up and down hills through Laurel's Historic District. George McCord was the overall winner with a time of 18.27 and Whitney Clark was the first female with a time of 21.17. Eric Weil and Elizabeth Freeman were the Masters winners, and Frank Barrett and Sandy Wargell were the Grand Masters winners. After the race everyone enjoyed plenty of fruit and water. Much thanks to the Laurel Arts League for working hard to put on a quality race. Also thanks to the LPD and LFD for making the streets safe.
